OMAHA, Neb. - Mayor-elect John Ewing, Jr. will be inaugurated as the City of Omaha's 52nd mayor at a meeting of the Omaha City Council on Monday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m.
The event, which will also include the swearing-in of seven Omaha City Council members, will be held in the Legislative Chambers of the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam St. A reception will follow.
Mayor-elect Ewing will formally take the oath of office, launching the beginning of his administration. A respected public servant and longtime advocate for community development and fiscal responsibility, Ewing brings decades of leadership experience and a strong vision for Omaha's future.
"This is a tremendous honor," he said. "I'm grateful for the trust the people of Omaha have placed in me, and I'm excited to get to work building a more inclusive, innovative, and vibrant city."

About John Ewing:
Ewing is an Omaha native who graduated from Northwest High School and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He served for 25 years with the Omaha Police Department, retiring in 2006 at the rank of deputy chief. He was elected to be Douglas County Treasurer in 2006. On May 13, Ewing was elected mayor of Omaha, becoming the first Black person elected to the post. He resigned his position with the Douglas
County Treasurer's Office on June 6.
