The European Union actively supports the initiative for a just and sustainable solution to the Palestinian question, based on the principles of international law, respect for territorial integrity, the return of displaced persons and the withdrawal of foreign troops.[1]
However, the Republic of Cyprus, an EU Member State, has remained under military occupation by a non-EU state for 51 years. Furthermore, tens of thousands of Cypriot refugees are still denied the right to return to their properties. Finally, thousands of Turkish settlers have been illegally transferred to the occupied territories, in violation of the Geneva Conventions.
