Larson Applauds Court Order Blocking Trump Deployment of Troops to Chicago

East Hartford, CT - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) applauded a court order issued late last night blocking the deployment of National Guard troopsto the Chicago area. Earlier this week, President Trump ordered Texas National Guard troopsdeployed to Chicago, against the wishes of state and local officials.

"Chris Murphy said it best on the floor of the Senate when he said, 'The authoritarian takeover isn't coming. It's here,'" said Larson. "Donald Trump wants to turn our military into his own personal army. He told top military leaders that Americans cities should be used as 'training grounds,' calling on them to handle the 'enemy from within.' Connecticut saw his Gestapo tactics up close when mothers were snatched from their children by masked ICE agents in Newington this summer. Every day, I'm hearing from constituents at town halls and across the First District who see this for what it is. Judge Perry got it right last night when she stood up for the rule of law against Trump's lawless and vindictive order. Americans - both elected officials and everyday citizens - must stand together to stop Donald Trump's power grab. Just like the people spoke out for free speech when Trump tried to take Jimmy Kimmel off the air, people ought to speak out against what he is doing with our National Guard. We the people will not be silenced."
