Greensboro's Downtown Greenway is receiving national attention as the City prepares to celebrate the completion of the full 4-mile loop, a project more than 20 years in the making.
Forbes recently featured the project, highlighting the public-private partnership and community investment that helped bring it to life. First conceived as part of the Center City Master Plan in 2001, the Greenway was later recognized by the Greensboro Bicentennial Commission as its signature project for the City's 200th birthday celebration.
"The Downtown Greenway is a reminder that transformational projects do not happen overnight," said Nasha McCray, assistant city manager. "This national recognition affirms what residents and partners have known for years. The Greenway is a meaningful investment in Greensboro's future."
The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, May 16, at Cairn's Course, 501 Guilford Ave. The official program, hosted by Parks and Recreation and Action Greensboro, begins at noon.
