The next regular Yuma City Council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Here are some of the items scheduled to be presented to City Council for consideration:
Aquatics Feasibility Study
Council will consider authorizing an aquatics feasibility study, which would review existing aquatic facilities, gather community input, evaluate potential sites, and provide recommendations to help guide future decisions about aquatic amenities in Yuma. The study would also include an assessment of Kennedy Pool to determine its future viability.
Lt. Daniel Elkins Public Safety Evidence Storage Facility
The agenda also includes a proposal to name the Public Safety Evidence Storage Facility in honor of Lt. Daniel Elkins, who was killed in the line of duty while serving the Yuma Police Department. This proposed naming recognizes his service, leadership, and sacrifice to the Yuma community.
Hotel del Sol Multi-modal Transportation Center
A contract authorization for the Hotel del Sol Multi-modal Transportation Center will be presented to City Council for consideration. The project would create a centralized transit hub in downtown Yuma, improve connectivity for residents, visitors, and the regional workforce, while preserving the historic character of the Hotel del Sol site and supporting future private investment and redevelopment.
Agreement with Arizona Department of Corrections
Council will also consider a five-year renewal agreement with the Arizona Department of Corrections which would continue the City's inmate work program. Through the program, minimum-security inmates convicted of non-violent offenses assist with maintenance of City-owned properties such as streets, retention basins, pathways, and park facilities.
Business license fee exemption for resident veteran-owned businesses
A proposed revision for Council consideration would exempt the business license fee for City residents who are veterans and own a business in Yuma. The proposed exemption is intended to recognize military service and reduce financial barriers for veteran-owned businesses.
