Houk Air Conditioning Opens Headquarters in Grand Prairie, Creating 200 Local Jobs

Houk Air Conditioning with $180 million of revenue officially opened its new headquarters at 1250 W Oakdale Road in Grand Prairie on Monday, January 19th, marking a major expansion for the family-owned HVAC company that now employs over 200 people locally and over 350 across four Texas markets.

The 90,000-square-foot facility consolidates its Dallas-Fort Worth administration, operations and training, called Houk University, considered the most comprehensive training program in the HVAC industry. The company provides free education and free tools to its technicians and installers, "a commitment very unique to the industry", says Houk President Doug Waidelich.

"We're the only HVAC company in Texas that gives our people the tools they need upon hiring and trains them at no cost," said Waidelich. "Most companies make technicians buy their own equipment or charge for training. We think that's backwards. If we want the best people doing the best work for our customers, we need to invest in them first."

The Grand Prairie headquarters represents the latest investment by the 63-year-old family business serving residential home builders and homeowners across the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio markets. Houk maintains a 4.8-star rating across more than 2,000 Google reviews, with an industry-leading callback rate below 3%.

The new facility enables Houk to expand its workforce and its development programs at a time when the construction industry faces significant skilled labor shortages. Its high-tech training center uses AI, hands-on instruction, iPad-based learning platforms, and real-world installation scenarios to prepare technicians for the field. All training is provided at no cost to employees along with providing each technician with a complete tool set upon employment.

"Grand Prairie has been a great partner in building something very special," says Waidelich. "This facility lets us train people the right way, store the inventory needed to serve our customers quickly, and grow our team without compromising the quality we've built our reputation on over six decades."

Houk Air Conditioning recently received both the Trane Soar Award and the Lennox Centurion Award, recognizing the Company as the top dealer in the North Texas market. Houk maintains an average builder relationship of more than 10 years and services over 20,000 homeowners statewide.

The Grand Prairie location serves as the Company's primary distribution hub to its three other warehouses statewide along with maintaining a fleet of over 300 vehicles.
