A fresh batch of rainbow trout has arrived at C.J. Strike Reservoir courtesy of Idaho Power.
Idaho Power tankers are adding 50,000 rainbow trout to C.J. Strike Reservoir this week. Fish were released at the Cottonwood and Jack's Creek boat launch sites Monday and Tuesday, with the final delivery coming Wednesday. These Idaho-grown trout are 10- to 12-inches long - perfect for the frying pan.
Some trout from previous releases are fitted with jaw tags. Anglers who catch one of those can report the tags for a chance to win a reward. Idaho Power adds rainbow trout to the Snake River twice each year. The program is part of the company's commitment to providing recreational opportunities for customers as part of its federal license to operate hydroelectric facilities on the Snake River.
C.J. Strike Reservoir, about 30 miles south of Mountain Home, has several campgrounds as well as day-use access. Anglers can fish from boats or the bank. The company recently upgraded the docks at several key locations, including North Park, Cottonwood, the Narrows, and Loveridge Bridge.
Visitors planning to stay overnight should reserve a spot online at idahopower.com/camping. Cash payments at the campgrounds are not accepted.
The C.J. Strike power plant was completed in 1952. It has three generators with a total capacity of 82,800 kilowatts - enough to power more than 63,000 average-sized homes.
