Tempe and Tempe Police statement

Tempe, AZ - Earlier today, a man entered the Tempe Police Headquarters lobby with a backpack and indicated it contained an explosive device. All members of the public and staff at Tempe Police Headquarters and Tempe City Courts were evacuated and the street in front of police headquarters was closed while police investigated.

The Tempe Police Department's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit responded, investigated the item and determined there was no threat. The man is in custody, and normal operations at both facilities have resumed.

We thank our community members, employees and partners for their patience during this incident.
