Capito: On Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, Republicans Back the Blue

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) expresses her gratitude for law enforcement officers and highlights how the Working Families Tax Cuts Act delivers on Republicans' commitment to supporting law enforcement and improving public safety and border security.

"On National Law Enforcement Day, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the brave men and women in West Virginia and across the country who put themselves in harm's way to keep our neighborhoods and communities safe. I will always Back the Blue, and I am proud that Republicans' Working Families Tax Cuts legislation supports law enforcement and makes historic investments in public safety and border security. Republicans are delivering on our promise to make our streets safer and secure the border," Senator Capito said.

How the Working Families Tax Cuts Bill Supports Law Enforcement:

  • Allocates $750 million in funding for Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC).
  • Provides funding for federal grants for local police departments through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (Byrne JAG) and Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program.
  • Provides funding for DOJ efforts to combat drug trafficking and precursor chemicals.
  • Allocates $46.5 billion for the border wall to keep violent illegal immigrants from coming into the country.
  • Provides much-needed funding for the Bureau of Prisons to address staffing shortages and improve facilities.
