Small Changes, Smarter Savings: Atlantic City Electric Marks Energy Awareness Month with Tips and Tools for Homeowners

October is Energy Awareness Month, and Atlantic City Electric is encouraging customers to take advantage of resources that can help make their homes and businesses more energy efficient. With temperatures starting to drop and families preparing to heat their homes, making small energy efficiency changes today can help lower energy costs throughout the fall and winter months.

Atlantic City Electric recognizes that many families are feeling the strain of higher prices, including their energy bills. Through The Exelon Promise, the company is taking action to help customers manage their bills with energy-saving tips, expanded access to assistance, and ongoing investments that support reliable service.

During Energy Awareness Month, Atlantic City Electric is highlighting the practical programs and tools customers can use to take control of their energy use.

Energy Efficiency Tools and Programs

Atlantic City Electric encourages customers to explore the following energy-saving programs:

  • Whole Home Energy Assesments: During a Whole Home Energy Assessment, customers will learn where their homes are losing energy and receive products and recommendations that can help make a difference on their energy bills and receive a personalized report with energy-saving strategies that can help save up to 20 percent* on energy costs annually.
  • Energy Bill Watch: Take control of your energy use with tools that provide high-usage alerts, projected monthly bills, hourly usage and weekly usage reports.
  • Energy Wise Rewards™: Customers with eligible smart thermostats can earn up to $100 for enrolling and participating, while helping reduce demand on the electric grid when energy use is highest.

Tips to save energy in the cooler months

  • Manage the thermostat: Setting the temperature to 68 degrees or lower can help save energy and money. For each degree customers lower the thermostat they can save up to 5 percent on heating costs, and a programmable or smart thermostat can automatically adjust the temperature while they're asleep or away.
  • Seal drafty windows and doors: Add weather strips around drafty doors and windows to help reduce air leaks. Caulk can seal cracks and gaps and reduce how much energy escapes from the home.
  • Keep curtains and drapes open on sunny days: Open blinds, shades and curtains on sunny winter days to bring in natural warmth, but close them when the sun goes down and at night to keep warm air in.
  • Don't run appliances until the load is full: Multiple half-loads may use more energy over time, so wait until the load is full before running appliances. Wash laundry in cold water when possible and clean the dryer's lint screen after each use.
  • Unplug devices and electronics: Unplug electronics and chargers when they're not being used or use smart power strips to shut down multiple devices at once.
