The latest guest on the GOVSI podcast is Blaž Cvar, President of the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia. | Author Government Communication Office
Cvar highlights the pressures that rising labour, energy and material costs place on craftsmen and entrepreneurs, alongside administrative requirements that take time away from their core activities. In his view, small businesses need a simpler business environment and a transparent, fair tax system.
He explains the Chamber's support for the development bill, highlighting measures including a cap on social security contributions, payment of full pensions while continuing to work, changes to the flat-rate expenses tax scheme, limits on reimbursement claims following workplace accidents, and lower VAT on basic foodstuffs. He sees the bill as a first step towards easing the burden on businesses and improving competitiveness. He also stresses the importance of creating conditions that encourage young professionals and companies to remain in Slovenia.
The conversation closes with an optimistic outlook for skilled trades. Cvar notes that these professions are regaining recognition and attracting young people, offering opportunities for rewarding employment and self-employment. "Slovenia is a nation of craftsmen," he says.
