FPL targets 95% of customers to be restored by end of day Monday as crews continue around-the-clock efforts following Hurricane Isaias

The latest: Since early this morning, when tropical storm force winds exited the state, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) crews have already restored more than 98,000 customers across the Florida Panhandle. FPL is targeting by the end of Monday to restore 95% of customers impacted by the storm, with many restored sooner.

Keep in mind: High winds, heavy rain and significant storm surge caused extensive damage in some of the hardest-hit communities. Fallen trees and debris are limiting access in some areas and making restoration work more complex and time-consuming.

Some customers' homes and businesses may have sustained damage that makes them unable to safely accept power. They must contact a licensed electrician to make repairs before FPL can safely restore their power.

A word from FPL President and CEO Scott Bores: "We understand how difficult it is to be without power, and we are committed to getting every customer's lights back on as soon as possible."

Restoration update: Our restoration workforce includes more than 16,000 men and women from 29 states working across the affected region. Damage assessment teams are working throughout affected areas and have completed drone flights providing aerial views of damage. These assessments help us identify damage and get the right crews and equipment where they are needed.

What FPL is doing:

  • Working through the night to continue restoring power to our customers.
  • Supporting our restoration with 16 staging, processing and parking sites that help move crews, equipment and resources where they are needed most.
  • Leveraging drones to assess damage to speed restoration.
  • Connecting with customers at 19 outage relief sites, which provide assistance including ice, water and answers to restoration-related questions.
  • Coordinating with local emergency management officials to clear roads for lineworkers.

What customers should do:

  • Immediately after a storm, FPL knows where power is out, so there is no need to contact FPL.
  • Safety is FPL's top priority for its crews and customers. Conditions can be dangerous even after the storm has passed. Customers should continue to heed warnings from local emergency officials.
  • Use extreme caution while driving. Power interruptions may cause traffic signals to stop working without warning. If you come to an intersection with a non-working traffic signal, Florida law requires that you treat it as a four-way stop.
  • If you are using a portable generator, follow the manufacturer's recommendations for proper use. Never operate a generator inside your home or garage.
  • Stay far away from downed power lines, flooding and debris; assume that lines are energized.
  • If customers have an emergency, call 911. Customers can report a downed power line or sparking electrical equipment to FPL by calling 1-800-4-OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243).

If customers don't see FPL crews:

  • Even if you don't see an FPL-branded truck in your area, that does not mean crews aren't working to restore your power.
  • FPL brings in additional restoration personnel from 29 states to support our response. That means some of the crews working in your community may be in contractor or other utility vehicles rather than FPL-branded trucks. They are part of our restoration effort and working alongside our FPL teams.
  • We are flying drones and helicopters to assess and help speed restoration.
  • Restoration work also happens throughout the electric grid, not just directly in front of the homes or businesses experiencing an outage. Crews may be working at a substation, along a main power line or at another location that must be repaired before power can be restored farther down the line.
  • If you see a crew drive through an area without stopping, they may be headed to another location where repairs must be completed first. Because of how the electric system is interconnected, work happening miles away can be necessary to restore power to a neighborhood.
