The meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, convened by the defence ministers of the United Kingdom, John Healey, and Germany, Boris Pistorius, was attended by the Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, via videoconference.

In her speech, the minister stressed that in the face of continuing Russian aggression and uncertainty about peace, the unity and determination of allies is more necessary than ever. In this context, she reiterated that Spain's support for Ukraine is firm and will continue for as long as it is needed.

Robles announced a number of measures to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities, as well as in the area of training and humanitarian aid. The Spanish effort in the training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the framework of the European Union Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM) already exceeds 8,000 trained troops.

On the humanitarian front, Robles recalled the Ministry of Defence's commitment to initiatives to support Ukrainian families, including temporary protection programmes and solidarity actions promoted by the Armed Forces.

Spain will continue to contribute in coordination with its international partners and coalitions to strengthen Ukrainian capabilities and move towards a just and lasting peace, backed by credible security guarantees. "Spain will stand by Ukraine for as long as necessary and beyond," concluded the minister during the meeting, which was also attended by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
