Rep. Andrea Salinas’ Statement Following Vote Against DHS Spending Bill

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued the following statement following her vote against opposing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spending bill.

"I voted no on the DHS spending bill. I will not vote to give more money to DHS and ICE while the Administration continues to use these agencies to terrorize communities and undermine due process. Families across Oregon are stillstruggling with the rising cost of groceries, housing, and health care, but instead of working to lower costs, Congressional Republicans are once again advancing a bill that doubles down on the Trump Administration's harmful priorities. The American people want lower costs and safe communities-not taxpayer dollars funding abuses at home or costly wars abroad.

"At the same time, despite promising the American people "no new wars." President Trump has pulled us into a war with Iran. We cannot allow Trump's war to be used as an excuse to sidestep necessary reforms at DHS.

"Instead of working with Democrats to rein in ICE and CBP operations, Republicans are once again choosing a partisan path that also puts crucial funding for agencies like TSA, FEMA, the Disaster Relief Fund, and the Coast Guard at risk. The American people have made it clear they want accountability and real solutions. Congress should be working together to deliver them."
