Sri Lanka Army Joins Hands with Stakeholdersto Remove Invasive Plants at Kala Wewa

In parallel with the "Clean Sri Lanka" programme, and in collaboration with the Wild Tuskers organisation, a large-scale environmental conservation programme was launched under the directions of the Commander of the Army to remove invasive plant species obstructing the lifestyle of elephants along the Kala Wewa tank bund in the 212 Infantry Brigade area.

The initiative, scheduled for 05, 06, and 07 September 2025, commenced on 05 September 2025, during which invasive plants, including Agadan and Japanese Jabara, covering approximately 10 acres in the Kala Wewa area near Kalagama, Anuradhapura, were successfully cleared. The remaining clearance is scheduled to continue at the Balalu Wewa bund on 06 and 07 September 2025.

A combined team comprising the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, the Department of Wildlife Conservation, the Mahaweli Authority, the Department of Irrigation, other government and private institutions, civil organisations, and civilians contributed their support to this eco-friendly initiative.
