Congressman Shri Thanedar to Hold Meeting with Elected Officials and Coalition to Stop the Camps to Oppose Romulus ICE Detention Center

Washington, D.C. - This week Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13), in conjunction with advocacy group Coalition to Shut the Camps (CSC), invited elected officials at the state and local level to a meeting on July 22, 2026 to discuss a plan to oppose the proposed ICE facility in Romulus. Members of the press are welcome to join.

"The continued progress of the Romulus detention facility goes against the wishes of many residents in Wayne County and across Michigan," said Rep. Thanedar. "Following the Department of Homeland Security's announcement that construction will continue and the facility could be ready as soon as fall 2026, I am calling for a meeting with CSC, Wayne County, and Romulus officials to work together and proactively prevent this detention center from moving forward."

After the meeting there will be a press conference with Congressman Thanedar, Coalition to Stop the Camps, and those who decided to attend to share what was discussed and the plan of action against the camp.
