Contra Costa County - Caltrans is announcing ongoing closures related to the Fiber Optic Infrastructure Project along both eastbound and westbound I-80, I-980 and I-580 in Contra Costa, Solano and Alameda Counties. The construction work, which focuses on installing new fiber optic infrastructure, will be conducted during overnight hours, specifically between 9 PM and 5 AM to minimize traffic disruption.
Caltrans will implement nightly ramp closures on eastbound and westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) between McDonald Avenue and the Carquinez Bridge throughout May 2026 with additional nightly closures to follow on I-80 near the Carquinez bridge, the I-980 to-I-580 interchange toward the connector between I-580 and I-80, throughout the duration of the project.
Full closures are scheduled to continue the week of Sunday, April 26, 2026, between 9 PM to 5 AM of the multiple on/off ramps between Barrett Avenue and Pinole Valley Road. During these closure periods, motorists are advised to follow posted detour routes.
*Please be advised that during the closure of the Barrett Avenue westbound I-80 on-ramp, Solano Avenue on-ramp will also be closed for the safety of both construction crews and the motoring public.*

This project is tentatively scheduled for completion by Winter 2028.
Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will provide advance notice for motorists traveling in the area. Drivers may experience minor delays and are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time.
