NASHVILLE- Congress has confirmed four of President Donald Trump's nominees for the Tennessee Valley Authority's board of directors.
The Senate voted last night to confirm Mitch Graves, Jeff Hagood, Randall Jones, and Arthur Graham, each by a 53 - 47 vote. Nominee Lee Beaman has been removed from the nomination process and would need to be re-nominated to be considered for the board.
In response, Bonnie Swinford, Organizing Strategist at Sierra Club, released the following statement:
"TVA is unlike any other utility. It was built on giving people power over their energy. TVA has the responsibility and the privilege to protect the air, water, and health of the Tennessee Valley while providing reliable power to 10 million people. At a time when Americans across the nation are struggling to pay their energy bills, it's even more important that a utility as unique as TVA be responsive and compassionate to the needs of its ratepayers. We welcome the return of a functional, voting board and are here to work with them to keep power in the public's hands and protect this beautiful region we call home."
