Mayor Shelley Berkley and Councilwoman Olivia Diaz will join other officials to cut the ribbon on the new Las Vegas Civic Center, located at 525 S. Main St., at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4.
The $190 million office development encompasses the entire city block bordered by Main Street, Goodman Way (formerly Clark Avenue), First Street and Bonneville Avenue. This new development features Carolyn G. Goodman Plaza, which will serve as a gathering place for our community and will be programmed with festivals, performances and more right in the heart of the city.
Following the ribbon-cutting, media will be able to tour Civic Center. Media parking will be available on South First Street, north of Bonneville Avenue.
The development includes two buildings, a five-story, 176,982-square-foot building and a four-story, 72,223-square-foot building. The contractor on the project is CORE Construction and LGA Architecture is the architect in collaboration with BNIM.
The development also includes two pads for future restaurants as well as a 2,400-square-foot contemporary gallery space expected to open in October with an exhibit that will be a partnership between the city of Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Museum of Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Civic Center also will feature public artwork inside and out. For more detail on these installations, visit the city website.
Entertainment in the plaza will begin with a free outdoor concert featuring Jessica Manalo at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 4. A Las Vegas-based singer-songwriter, Manalo brings her signature blend of soul, grit, and inspiration to Goodman Plaza. As a contestant on "The Voice," Manalo is known for her raw vocal power and emotionally charged performances. Manalo promises an unforgettable night of music, empowerment and soul.
