Charlotte, NC - Today, the American Trucking Associations recognized Sentry Insurance with the 2026 Cathy Evans Highway to Victory Award for their commitment to advocacy on behalf of the trucking industry.
"At a time when lawsuit abuse continues to sharply drive up costs and threaten our industry, Sentry Insurance refused to sit on the sidelines. Instead, they leaned in. They brought expertise and credibility to help build the case for meaningful tort reform," said ATA Chief Advocacy and Public Affairs Officer Henry Hanscom. "For their extraordinary leadership, partnership, and unwavering commitment to achieving one of ATA's top priorities, we are proud to recognize Sentry as the recipient of this year's Cathy Evans Highway to Victory Award."
"We're honored to receive the Cathy Evans Highway to Victory Award and proud of our continued partnership with ATA in advocating for the trucking industry," said Scott Miller, president commercial insurance agency & broker at Sentry. "Legal abuse continues to drive up costs and create uncertainty for motor carriers and the businesses they serve. By working together, we can advance meaningful tort reform, promote a fairer legal environment and help protect the long-term stability of the trucking industry."
Named for longtime ATA lobbyist Cathy Evans, the Highway to Victory Award is presented annually to an ATA member who has had a significant impact on the Federation's advocacy efforts at the state and federal levels.
Sentry was selected from a competitive pool of candidates for this award due to the company's strategic and substantive contributions.
Over the past year, Sentry has provided invaluable data that helped quantify the real-world costs of lawsuit abuse, strengthening ATA's policy arguments and equipping ATA's advocacy team with compelling evidence to take to lawmakers.
Additionally, Sentry co-hosted key events with pivotal Members of Congress, which were critical to advancing tort reform. Moreover, Jim Frank, Sentry's Chief Claims and Information Technology Officer, served as an expert witness at a House Judiciary Committee roundtable to discuss the growing threat posed by third-party litigation financing, ensuring the trucking industry's perspective was heard at the highest levels.
Finally, Sentry has helped ATA build a broad coalition in support of tort reform by encouraging major insurance organizations to become actively involved. They also played a vital role in convincing a prominent safety group to endorse the Staged Accident Fraud Prevention Act, strengthening the bipartisan momentum for this legislation.
