Traffic camera data under review at next virtual parking management meeting this week

Published Sept. 22, 2025

Placer County is inviting residents to attend the third in a series of parking management community meetings in North Lake Tahoe this week.

Program consultant, Dixon Resources Unlimited, will share data collected from the automated license plate recognition cameras on the county's parking management vehicles. The data were collected from June through September and offer insight into parking trends, congested areas, parking turnover and more.

Community members can join online Tuesday evening, Sept. 23, starting at 6 p.m. Registration is required to attend this Zoom meeting .

"Our data review shows that weekends consistently see very high occupancy, underscoring both the demand and the need for parking policies that can better accommodate high volumes in the Kings Beach area," said program consultant associate Alex Gayte. "We look forward to sharing more about what the data reveals and how it will guide future parking strategies."

This one-hour meeting will be followed by a Q&A session to gather public feedback and answer questions about the program. Residents can provide input on potential future paid parking lots in the region and suggestions for a future residential parking permit program.

For those who cannot attend this meeting, Placer County has established an online community engagement page for the Parking Management Program. Participants can ask staff questions, provide feedback or submit suggestions on the Engage Placer website here: https://engage.placer.ca.gov/parking-management-program .

The North Lake Tahoe Parking Management Program was initiated using transient occupancy tax funding through the TOT-TBID Dollars at Work program in partnership with Placer County and the North Tahoe Community Alliance. Over $1 million has been provided to cover infrastructure costs, operations and maintenance, and enforcement of the program.
