The City of Highland Village is seeking persons interested in serving as a municipal representative on the Board of Managers for the Denton Central Appraisal District (DCAD) and the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA).
The Denton Central Appraisal District is governed by a board of nine directors. Five directors are appointed by the taxing units that participate in the district - such as counties, cities/towns and school districts; three directors are elected by majority vote at a general election for state and county officers by the voters of the county in which the district is established. The Board of Directors is responsible for hiring the Chief Appraiser, approving the budget, and establishing general policies within the requirements of state law. The Board of Directors has no authority to set values or appraisal methods. The board typically meets once per month.
Members of the board that are appointed by participating taxing units and serve staggered four-year terms beginning January 1st of every other even-numbered year. To be eligible to serve on the Board of Directors, an individual must be a resident of the Denton Central Appraisal District and must have resided in the district for at least two years immediately preceding the date of taking office. An elected official or a member of the governing body of a taxing unit in the appraisal district may serve as a director. An employee of a taxing unit that participates in the Denton Central Appraisal District is not eligible to serve on the district's Board of Directors unless such individual is also a member of the governing body or an elected official of a taxing unit that participates in the district. A person may not serve if closely related to anyone in the appraisal district or if relate to anyone who represents owners in the district, or if the person has an interest in a business that contracts with the district or a taxing unit. Taxing units may nominate a candidate(s) to be included in a slate of nominees that will be voted on later this year. The Denton County Transportation Authority is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of five voting members appointed by respective entities from Denton County and the cities of Denton, Lewisville and Highland Village, serving two-year terms. Other Denton County cities make up the remaining six non-voting members. The Board adopts the annual operating budget and is responsible for setting policy. The Board typically meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at the DCTA offices located in Lewisville. Please see additional information available on the DCTA website.
