GMA Expands Support Services with New Employee Assistance Program

New Benefit Spotlight: Confidential 24/7 support for employees, volunteer first responders, and their families through the new Employee Assistance Program

Georgia Municipal Employee Benefits Services is expanding member benefits with the introduction of a new Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Offered through GMA's life and health insurance program and provided by ComPsych® GuidanceResources®, the world's largest provider of Employee Assistance Programs, the program offers confidential support resources designed to help navigate everyday challenges and support overall well-being.

This program would give employees, volunteer first responders, and their family members free and confidential access to professional support whenever they need it. It also ensures that those using the program can quickly activate on-site critical incident stress management services if the need arises.

What the EAP Offers

All employees and volunteer first responders, along with their spouses and children (up to age 26), would have access to the following confidential services at no cost to them, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week:

  • On-Call Counseling and Crisis Intervention: Unlimited access to master's-level clinicians through a dedicated toll-free line available 24/7 for immediate counseling and crisis support.
  • Confidential Counseling: Short-term* counseling in person, by phone, or via video for stress, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship conflicts, and more, plus referral services if needed. (*Up to five counseling sessions per issue)
  • Legal Guidance: Phone consultations with attorneys on issues such as family law, estate planning, landlord/tenant matters, and bankruptcy, plus, if needed, referrals to local attorneys with a free 30-minute consultation and 25% discount on fees.
  • Financial Resources: Phone consultations with Certified Financial Planners and CPAs on topics such as budgeting, debt management, retirement, mortgages, and taxes.
  • Work-Life Support: Research and referral assistance for childcare, elder care, pet care, housing, and other everyday needs.
  • Digital Self-Care Tools: Access to Koa Care 360, an evidence-based wellness platform covering anxiety, stress, mindfulness, sleep, and resilience.

In addition, employers that offer the EAP have access to On-site Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) services, which provide professional crisis response and debriefing support following a traumatic workplace event. This service is provided at the time of the event for an additional fee.
