Cole Goodwin Reminds Us That Good Things Take Time On “Closer Every Day” (Out Now)

Rising country artist Cole Goodwintakes a wistful look at the road ahead on "Closer Every Day," out today (10.9) via Big Machine Records. Against bright, fingerpicked guitar, tender vocals and a soft, traditional country twang, Goodwin embraces the beauty in a long journey and the patience it takes to get where you're meant to be. He finds comfort in the fact that good things take time as he remembers "I ain't there yet but I'm on my way, and I'm getting closer every day."

"This was the first of many songs I've written with Monty Criswell and Derek George, and it's remained one of my favorites," says Goodwin. "I've always loved those old songs with hooks that have multiple meanings, and this feels like one of those to me. It's honest and anybody can relate to it in some way, which I think is the beauty of 'Closer Every Day' - everybody is just trying to be better and get 'closer' to the best version of themselves."

Written by Goodwin, alongside GRAMMY-nominated songwriters Derek George and Monty Criswell, and produced by Ryan Youmans (Hudson Westbrook, Muscadine Bloodline, Tyler Halverson), "Closer Every Day" captures Goodwin's knack for vivid, small-town storytelling, from busted knuckles beneath the hood of an old Chevrolet to conversations with grandpa about the honky-tonk hell he raised and the gates of heaven he can't wait to reach.

Raised in Pooler, GA, Goodwin has been praised as an "old school country crooner" (Holler Country), drawing on the classic country greats he grew up listening to, with homespun songwriting and a sound steeped in the genre's roots. "Closer Every Day" follows his four-track Howdy EP (6.26), spanning honky-tonk swagger, sweet romance and slow-burning heartbreak. The title track earned 56 first-week adds at country radio, while "Keep On Rainin'" features background vocals from 2025 GRAMMY Songwriter of the Year Jessi Alexander.

Goodwin recently wrapped performances with Zach Top and a special one-night-only show with Carly Pearce, and has supported Dierks Bentley on the Off The Map Tour. He continues to bring his timeless country sound to stages across the country, with upcoming dates supporting Ashley McBryde on the Into the Wild Tour and Braxton Keith on the Real Damn Deal Tour.
