Lauren Gillespie, a senior graphic design student at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at the George Washington University, recently won an Independent Press Award for her work on "Nurse Florence, Tell Me About the Mediterranean Diet."

The book is part of the "Nurse Florence" children's book series, which aims to make high-quality medical information accessible and engaging for young readers. By introducing children to accurate terminology and foundational science concepts early on, the series seeks to improve health literacy while helping prepare students for future studies and careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Gillespie's work supports the series' mission to inspire curiosity and spark interest in STEM-related fields.
