Watch Kacey Musgraves Honor 'Our Forever Angel' Dolly Parton In Moving Tribute

Kacey Musgraves reflected on her stunning tribute to Dolly Parton.

Musgraves, 38, delivered a stunning rendition of Parton's classic, "I Will Always Love You," in the late legend's honor during the 2026 MTV VMAs on Sunday night (September 27). The performance opened with a clip of Parton singing the timeless ballad. Musgraves, wearing a shimmering pink gown with feathered cuffs, joined in and continued the song solo.

"Anything for our forever angel, [Dolly Parton]," Musgraves wrote in her caption as she shared the performance on Instagram on Tuesday evening (September 29). The Middle of Nowhere artist wrote in the caption of another Instagram post, "I will think of you each step of the way…"

Musgraves' performance is one of many heartfelt tributes to the beloved country icon. Parton "died peacefully" on August 25 in Nashville, Tennessee, an official announcement confirmed at the time. She was 80. Parton's representatives said in a statement to PEOPLE that same day, "after bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones." Parton w aslaid to rest in a private service beside her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025. He was 82.
