Despite his promises to usher in a "golden age" for America once he took office, Trump's disastrous economic agenda has made life worse for millions of hardworking Black Americans. From skyrocketing costs to putting the American dream of owning a home further out of reach, Black Americans' livelihoods are being crushed under the weight of Trump's growing list of economic failures and broken promises.
In response, DNC Vice Chair Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta released the following statement:
"Donald Trump's broken promises are crushing Black Americans. He promised that our community would be in 'good shape' under his leadership, but the exact opposite is true. When he's not posting racist memes, he's making their lives harder and everything more expensive. Trump's broken campaign promises have left Black Americans behind and made our lives worse. Black unemployment is up, Black-owned businesses are struggling, and costs are out of control. Black Americans will hold Trump and Republicans accountable this November for their failed economic policies that are wreaking havoc on our communities."
Just one year into his term, Trump's economic policies have left Black Americans in the lurch. Trump's reckless trade policies have led to sky-high prices and have disproportionately hurt Black families and small businesses. Meanwhile, Black Americans' paychecks have not grown to address the cost-of-living crisis Trump created.
Black voters are fed up with Trump's economic incompetence: Only 9% of Black voters approve of Trump's handling of the economy, and more than half of Black Americans think we're in a recession. The contrast couldn't be clearer: Democrats are building momentum to win back voters of color - including Black Americans - who largely supported candidates like Abigail Spanberger, Mikie Sherill, Alicia Johnson, Christian Menefee, Renee Hardman, and Alonna Berry, who campaigned and won on affordability.
