Leak Detection Made Easy at SMWD Expo

Santa Margarita Water District's Water Use Efficiency (WUE) team welcomed customers to the Home Leak Expo on Saturday, March 21-an engaging and informative event designed to help customers better understand, detect, and prevent household leaks.

Before the presentations began, attendees had the opportunity to connect with industry professionals, explore vendor booths, and enter opportunity drawings. Participating vendors included Santa Margarita Plumbing, American Leak Detection, Restoration 1, ServPro with Parmenter Insurance, and Wolcott Insurance-each offering valuable insights and resources.

The program kicked off with SMWD Water Efficiency Specialists demonstrating how to check a water meter for leaks and isolate potential issues at home. From there, Rolando Palafox of Santa Margarita Plumbing led a hands-on and highly practical session, showing attendees simple DIY toilet repairs, how to use a pressure gauge to identify indoor leaks, and what installing a Flo by Moen system looks like.

American Leak Detection followed with an overview of non-invasive leak detection techniques, tools, and strategies for identifying outdoor leaks. The event concluded with Jane Parmenter, who provided helpful guidance on navigating the insurance side of water damage-covering claims, coverage considerations, and how to stay compliant with policy requirements.

To wrap up the day, several lucky attendees walked away with exciting prizes, including a Flume water monitor, a Ferguson ProFlo toilet, and a Flo by Moen device.

Events like the Home Leak Expo not only equip customers with practical knowledge but also provide an opportunity to connect with experts and gain confidence in managing water use at home. If you missed this event, be sure to keep an eye out for future workshops-there's always something new to learn.
