The City of Cedar Falls will host a visit from HUD Region VII Regional Administrator (RA) Joseph Mitchell on Tuesday, September 9, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
RA Mitchell has been meeting with multiple Iowa cities over the past months to discuss local projects, achievements, and efforts. His visit will include a general housing discussion which highlights the City's accomplishments and best practices, a community tour, and an opportunity to engage with the local media.
During his time in Cedar Falls, RA Mitchell will speak with several City staff members and elected officials including Mayor Danny Laudick and Community Development Director Stephanie Houk Sheetz on items such as the Cedar Falls recovery efforts following the 2008 and 2016 floods, current housing initiatives and development accomplishments, infrastructure and flood mitigation projects, and how the City has successfully utilized HUD, CDBG, HOME, and PHA funding to improve the community.
All members of the media are invited to a press conference with RA Mitchell during his visit so they can learn more and ask questions. The conference will be from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on September 9 in the City Hall Council Foyer (220 Clay Street).
"We look forward to welcoming RA Mitchell to our beautiful city and sharing our local actions with him," said Amanda Huisman, Cedar Falls Communications Specialist. "We are proud of our community and how the City has worked to create housing opportunities, establish vital disaster recovery and mitigation efforts, and use federal funding that's provided to advance local housing so that Cedar Falls can have a bright future."
