Coordinator for AI Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Attends the Convening on AI and Human Development

From August 20 to 21, 2026, the Convening on AI and Human Development was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Governor of Shaanxi Province Zhao Gang, and Coordinator for AI Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sun Xiaobo attended the event and delivered remarks. Heads of international organizations, including Anacláudia Rossbach, Under-Secretary-General of the U.N. and Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, as well as Chinese and foreign experts, scholars, and industry representatives, participated in the event.

Sun Xiaobo stated that President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at the World AI Conference, profoundly elucidating the relationship between AI and human development. This speech is of paramount guiding significance for our understanding and grasping of the developmental laws of AI. The advancement of modern science and technology shines in tandem with the civilization of the Silk Road. "Tokens" have replaced courier stations, linking every corner of human civilization and serving as partners and assistants in humanity's exploration of the unknown. China has always supported the U.N. in playing the primary channel role in the global governance of AI, and stands ready to work with all parties to promote the development of AI for the positive and for good.
