Brandon Bennett
Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Brandon Bennett, a proud 2x Reddie from Hot Springs. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management in 2022, and went on to complete my MBA in 2024. Professionally, I've had the privilege of supporting student leadership development at Centenary College of Louisiana and at Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity headquarters. This fall, I'm excited to begin a new chapter as the coordinator of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Arkansas Tech University.
My passion for student affairs began at Henderson, where I served as Student Activities Board president, a Greek Life member, and a resident assistant. On a personal note, I'm thrilled that my little sister, Gina, will be joining the Reddie family this fall.
What motivates you to serve on the HSU Alumni Advisory Board?
My own incredible experiences at Henderson inspire me to give back through service on the Alumni Advisory Board. I want to help ensure that current students are supported and empowered to thrive, while also strengthening connections among alumni. I look forward to sharing ideas and energy to help make Henderson a welcoming home for all Reddies -- past, present, and future.
What were some of your favorite memories from your time at Henderson?
Some of my favorite memories at Henderson State include campus traditions like Henderson Halloween, Greek Week, Spring Fling Week, and Battle of the Ravine Week. The Student Affairs team always went above and beyond to create meaningful experiences, whether it was trick-or-treating on the South Lawn, celebrating during Spring Fling, or coming together for Battle of the Ravine Week.
How did your college experience shape who you are today?
My time at Henderson helped me grow tremendously, both personally and professionally. Through the many opportunities I had, I developed essential skills like critical thinking, time management, and communication. I also discovered a passion for helping others, which continues to guide my career in student affairs.
Were there any specific courses or professors that had a significant impact on you?
Yes, Dr. Durand left a lasting impression on me. Although he wasn't my assigned professor, he took the time to help me when I was struggling in a math course. His willingness to go above and beyond showed me what true dedication to students looks like, and it's something I carry with me in my own work today.
What message would you like to send to future Henderson students?
If there's one thing I learned at Henderson, it's that when students have an idea or goal, the faculty and staff genuinely try to help make it happen. You'll find a supportive, uplifting atmosphere that will help you succeed and feel at home.
Is there anything else you'd like to share about your Henderson experience?
Henderson State will always feel like a second home to me. No matter where life takes me, I know I'll always have my Reddie family to celebrate the good times or lean on during the tough ones. I'm truly grateful that I chose Henderson.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
If I could have any superpower, I'd choose time travel. I think it would be amazing to witness historic moments, like the first moon landing.
What is your favorite hobby or activity to unwind after a busy day at work?
I love binge-watching TV shows to relax. Some of my favorites include The Walking Dead franchise, American Horror Story, The White Lotus, and Emily in Paris.
What is the most interesting place you've ever visited and why?
Füssen, Germany, is probably the most fascinating place I've visited. Between the breathtaking Bavarian scenery, the rich history, and the castles tied to "Mad" King Ludwig, it felt like stepping into a storybook. I also got some amazing photos while I was there!
If you could choose any historical figure to have dinner with, who would it be and why?
I'd love to have dinner with Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press. He's from Mainz, Germany, where I was born, and I'd be curious to hear what life in Mainz was like during his time.
If you could listen to only one music genre for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Definitely 2000s R&B, there's nothing like it! If you knew me during my time at Henderson, you've definitely heard me karaoke to "U Got It Bad" by Usher!
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received, and how has it influenced your life or career?
The best advice I've received is, Just be confident. Holding yourself back out of fear of failure only guarantees missed opportunities. That mindset has helped me pursue challenges, even when they felt intimidating.
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring three things, what would they be?
A knife, a roll of duct tape, and a water bottle… though I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't last very long!
