Henderson Turns on 400 New Boulder Highway Streetlights in Major Safety Milestone

Reimagine Boulder Highway Aims to Improve Safety for All Roadway Users

HENDERSON, Nev. (May 6, 2026) - The Reimagine Boulder Highway project reached a major milestone with new streetlights now activated along a stretch of the 7.5-mile corridor, bringing immediate safety improvements to one of Nevada's most dangerous roadways.

Approximately 400 new streetlights are now in operation, addressing long-standing visibility issues for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

The added lighting marks a critical investment in safety, improving sightlines and reducing risks that have historically contributed to serious and fatal crashes along Boulder Highway.

"This is a major step forward in making Boulder Highway safer for everyone who uses it," said Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero. "Turning on these lights is more than a construction milestone; it's a meaningful safety improvement for our community."

The milestone follows continued progress on the project, which reached its halfway point in January. Since construction began, crews have focused on building the infrastructure needed to support long-term safety and mobility improvements.

Work completed to date includes:

  • Installed more than 20,000 feet of underground storm drains to reduce flooding
  • Upgraded traffic signal wiring at 17 intersections
  • Placed more than 50,000 feet of conduit for streetlights
  • Laid tens of thousands of square yards of asphalt for future transit lanes
  • Built 7,800 square yards of red concrete bus stops to support reliable and accessible transit
  • Relocated key utilities including water, electric, gas and communications lines

With much of the underground infrastructure now complete, the project is moving into more visible roadway and streetscape improvements as work continues to transform Boulder Highway into a safer, more connected corridor.

The improvements were made possible after the Nevada Department of Transportation transferred ownership of Boulder Highway to the City of Henderson, allowing the City to advance long-planned safety and infrastructure upgrades along the corridor.
