UIW Feik School of Pharmacy Ranks No. 1 in Texas on National Licensure Exam

The UIW Feik School of Pharmacy (FSOP) is celebrating an exciting achievement, as the FSOP Class of 2025 ranked #1 in pass rate in the state of Texas on the most recent North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX). The NAPLEX is "designed to evaluate general practice knowledge and is taken by recent college of pharmacy graduates shortly after they receive their degree. The exam is also taken by foreign-educated pharmacists who have earned FPGEC Certification" (nabp.pharmacy).

FSOP graduates had a 97% passing rate, ranking them first in the state among the nine pharmacy schools in Texas and No. 7 in the nation among 142 schools. The state average passing rate was 87%, and the national average was 86.8%. These are the highest scores in the history of FSOP.

"For the past five years, the Feik School of Pharmacy (FSOP) has always been in the top three of pharmacy schools in Texas for licensure pass rates, but this is the first time in the history of the school that we were #1 among the nine pharmacy schools in Texas," expressed FSOP Dean David Maize, PhD. "Our passing rates also placed us #7 among the 142 schools of pharmacy in the nation. We are very proud of the Class of 2025 for their performance. It was their hard work and the dedication of the faculty and staff that made this possible. The FSOP provides a superior education in a supportive environment. This is what makes us the 'Pharmily.'"

With another generation of pharmacy professionals seeking to make an impact on their local and broader communities, many are eager to officially begin their careers as practicing pharmacists, extending their healing presence to those in need.

"From the very beginning of my pharmacy career at FSOP, the faculty and staff did a phenomenal job preparing pharmacy students to become great pharmacists," shared Casey Hourigan, FSOP '25. "FSOP provides NAPLEX guidebooks and practice questions to support students while they complete their rotations and coursework … They provide detailed slides on how to register for the NAPLEX, including information on exam length, number of questions and score interpretation … Ultimately, the daily dedication and preparation provided by the professors, staff and librarians at FSOP are what create exceptional pharmacists. I am proud to be among those who graduated from the Feik School of Pharmacy!"

Now as an FSOP graduate, Hourigan is driven to give back to the community as well as obtain her preceptor license and register with FSOP to help educate future pharmacy students.
