Chinese Embassy in Uganda Holds Qingming Memorial for Fallen China’s Uganda Aid Martyrs

On April 3, 2026, Chargé d'affaires a.i. Fan Xuecheng of the Chinese Embassy in Uganda together with embassy staff presented a Qingming tomb-sweeping ceremony for deceased Chinese Experts who sacrificed their lives during the construction of the Uganda National Stadium project aid by China. Representatives from Chinese enterprises in Uganda, the Chinese medical team, Confucius Institutes, Xinhua News Agency, and other Chinese institutions in Uganda attended the event.

In his remarks, Mr. Fan expressed profound respect and deep condolences for the fallen experts, and called on all participants to carry forward their legacy, further promote the great spirit of internationalism, contribute to building a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era, promote the China-Uganda Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership to a higher level, and ensure that China-Uganda traditional friendship flows on unceasingly like the Nile.

The ceremony was solemn and respectful. Participants carefully paid tribute at the monument, laid flowers, and observed a moment of silence. The Uganda National Stadium was completed and handed over in 1997 with Chinese assistance. During its construction, four Chinese experts-Hu Yexing, Kong Huiping, Bao Jinping, and Wang Guorui-tragically lost their lives.
