TFD Rescues Dogs from House Fire

September 14, 2025

On September 14, at 12:35 a.m., the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 1300 block of Jay Bird Lane. Crews arrived on scene to find a home with heavy fire coming from the roof.

Firefighters quickly made entry into the home and rescued two dogs. All other occupants were out of the home when TFD arrived. The fire was extinguished with no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Florida Department of Financial Services Division of Investigative & Forensic Services. TFD remained on scene for several hours to completely extinguish the fire.

The Tallahassee Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Leon County Sheriff's Office, Leon County EMS and Talquin Electric Cooperative. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced residents.

TFD reminds all residents to have working smoke alarms on every level of their home and to regularly review and practice home fire escape plans. Early fire detection and preparation saves lives.
