The AGH University of Krakow and the National Museum in Krakow have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at developing and implementing modern, responsible artificial intelligence solutions in the field of culture and national heritage. The partnership entails long-term collaboration in research, development, and implementation, bringing together the expertise of academia and cultural institutions.
The planned activities will focus primarily on the use of AI tools based on the Museum's digital resources. One of the objectives of the cooperation is to support the Museum's staff in making the collections available to the public, which will undoubtedly help increase access to one of the most valuable collections in Poland and around the world.
The agreement provides for joint research and development in the field of IT, in particular, artificial intelligence and data processing methods, as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience, the development of prototype solutions and joint efforts to secure national and international funding. The partners also plan to organise workshops, seminars, and training courses, as well as to facilitate the completion of diploma theses and student placements, which will favour the development of skills in future professionals working at the intersection of technology and culture.
At AGH University, the implementation of the agreement will be coordinated by Professor Joanna Jaworek-Korjakowska, Director of the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, who shall be responsible for information technologies, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and advanced robotics. The implementation process will also include the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, and Professor Manuela Reben will focus on conservation and materials research in the fields of art and cultural heritage.
