Wageningen University explores deeper agriculture partnership with Guyana

Representatives from Wageningen University and Research (WUR) have visited Guyana and highlighted non-timber forest products and agro-forestry commodities as prime opportunities for development.

The visit is a direct follow-up to the European Union-funded mission under the Global Gateway that brought Guyanese representatives to Europe in November 2025, where engagements with European institutions, including Wageningen, laid the groundwork for continued cooperation. This visit represents the practical next step in translating those discussions into tangible partnerships.

Guyana's agricultural sector is expanding and modernising, supported by government investment in infrastructure, farm productivity, agro-processing, and market access. National initiatives aim to increase domestic production, strengthen value chains, and position Guyana as a key contributor to food security in the Caribbean.

The sector's growth is occurring alongside efforts to improve climate resilience, promote sustainable land use, and support farmers through innovation and technology.
