USDA Celebrates Completion of La Pine Water, Wastewater Systems

(La Pine, Ore., June 9, 2026) - Together with the city of La Pine, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Oregon State Director Jim Carmack today celebrated the completion of the city's new water and wastewater systems.

"The City of La Pine has been committed, attentive, and thorough during the years their significant water and wastewater system improvements have been underway," said Carmack. "Under President Trump's leadership, USDA is absolutely committed to the long-term health of our rural communities, which hinges on critical infrastructure such as this."

Over nine years, USDA Rural Development provided $21,000,000 in loan funds and $13,193,000 in grant funds to help the city make significant improvements. The community's water and sewer infrastructure had been deteriorating with groundwater contamination, high nitrate levels, and aged components. Improvements include, among storage and treatment facilities, added security measures, upgraded water distribution and sewer collection lines, and increased capacity to include more residents and plan for future growth. The projects were co-funded in partnership with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, Business Oregon, and the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

USDA Rural Development invests in projects like these through its Water and Environmental Programs , which help rural communities obtain the technical assistance and financing necessary to develop drinking water and waste disposal systems. Safe drinking water and sanitary waste disposal systems are vital not only to public health, but also to the economic vitality of rural America.

USDA Rural Development invests in rural America with programs to promote rural prosperity. These programs expand access to high-speed internet, electricity, and transportation infrastructure, and support economic growth, healthcare, education, housing, and other community essentials.
