Ocasio-Cortez Statement on Suspicious Letter Sent to District Office in Hunts Point

October 20, 2026

NEW YORK - Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) released the following statement today after a suspicious letter was delivered to her district office in Hunts Point. The letter is being investigated by the New York City Police Department and federal authorities, including U.S. Capitol Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Across the country, over three dozen congressional offices have reported receiving letters containing unknown white powders.

"Today, my Hunts Point District Office received a suspicious letter consistent with those received by dozens of elected officials across the country. I am grateful to local and federal law enforcement who quickly responded to investigate the matter and worked to ensure the safety of my staff."

"This string of suspicious mailings started two weeks before a consequential midterm election and is seemingly intended to intimidate public servants and sow further division.

"Political violence has no place in our country. It is always unacceptable and we must all refuse to normalize an unsafe and volatile political environment where everyday people are put at risk."
