Skowhegan, ME - Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins delivered remarks and toured the newly opened New Balance Central Maine factory expansion in Skowhegan. Federal, state, and local officials were in attendance along with hundreds of New Balance employees to celebrate the completion of a $65 million expansion that will create 200 new jobs and double the production capacity of the facility. Senator Collins previously took part in the groundbreaking for the expansion in 2023.
"Here in Maine, shoemaking is more than just a job - it is part of our heritage. Thanks to the dedicated New Balance team, it is also part of our future, and I congratulate you on this great accomplishment and look forward to the opportunities it will bring to Skowhegan, to Maine, and to America," said Senator Collins during her remarks.
The project added a 120,000 square foot single-story expansion to the existing 5-story factory building that was purchased by the company in 1981. An additional 20,000 square feet of the existing building is also being renovated.
