National Sorghum Producers Endorses Derek Schmidt for Reelection in Kansas' 2nd Congressional District

LUBBOCK, Texas (June 25, 2026) - National Sorghum Producers today announced its endorsement of Derek Schmidt for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives in Kansas' 2nd Congressional District, citing his Kansas roots, agricultural background and record of service to farmers and rural communities.

A fifth-generation Kansan from Independence, Schmidt has spent his career serving the state, including 12 years as Kansas attorney general and previous service in the Kansas Senate, where he chaired the Kansas Senate Agriculture Committee. Since taking office in Congress, Schmidt has continued working on issues important to Kansas producers, rural communities and the agricultural economy.

Schmidt has supported expanded market opportunities for grain producers through biofuels, including co-sponsoring the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act and voting this spring to allow year-round nationwide access to E15. His work on biofuels aligns with NSP's priorities to expand domestic demand, increase fuel choice for consumers and strengthen rural economies.

Schmidt understands Kansas agriculture and the challenges facing farm families across the state. As producers continue to navigate tight margins, high input costs, weather challenges and uncertain markets, his experience and leadership will be important to ensuring sorghum farmers and rural communities have a strong voice in Congress.

NSP is proud to support Schmidt's reelection and looks forward to continuing to work with him on farm policy implementation, trade, biofuels, regulatory challenges and other priorities impacting America's farmers and ranchers.
