Poppy Flower Pinned on Defence Secretary

A Poppy Flower was ceremonially pinned on Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) when a delegation of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen's Association (SLESA) met him at the Defence Ministry, today (25 September).

The SLESA delegation, led by its President, Lieutenant Colonel Ajith Siyambalapitiya, met the Defence Secretary at his office this morning. President of the SLESA Poppy Committee, Major General Mahinda Mudalige, pinned the poppy flower on the Defence Secretary during the occasion.

The Defence Secretary also engaged in a cordial discussion with the SLESA delegation during the meeting.

Poppy Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to commemorate the fallen armed forces personnel whilst on duty.
