ATLANTA - State Representative Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), chair of the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee, recently spoke with a group of University of Georgia honors students who are members of the Arch Policy Institute (API) during a discussion focused on ethical leadership.
"It was an honor to speak with these students who are committed to serving their community through the development of local policy solutions," said Chair Smith. "It is encouraging to see them building leadership skills and learning how to navigate effective negotiations and apply ethical decision-making. I was proud to have the opportunity to share my perspective and offer guidance to this group of future leaders, and I am grateful to the University of Georgia for the opportunity to connect with the students at the Arch Policy Institute."
"Everyone at the presentation, including me, learned a lot about effective negotiation, leadership and cooperation in the face of politically and interpersonal challenges," said Zoe Cannon, Director of the API Policy Analysis Team. "I hope to implement a lot of what I learned from Chair Smith in my political experiences going forward."
API is a student-run, nonpartisan think tank housed in the Jere W. Morehead Honors College at the University of Georgia. Founded more than a decade ago by a group of students, the organization seeks to inspire community activism and develop solutions to local challenges. Through its policy teams, API works to serve the Athens community by discussing, developing and implementing policy solutions.
More information about API may be found here.
