House Minority Leader Tony McCombie spoke on the House Floor during debate to call out the appalling hypocrisy of the Democrat majority on penalty enhancements. Leader McCombie's efforts to protect front-line workers in the aftermath of the murder of DCFS workers Pam Knight and Dierdre Silas has been prohibited to move forward due to the Democrat majority's refusal to consider a penalty enhancement. Following her remarks, she issued the following statement:
"Penalty enhancements are often warranted, but the Democrat majority only supports penalty enhancements when it fits their agenda. They have allowed 148 penalty enhancements since Pam Knight's murder but refuse to adopt them when matters of public safety and security are at stake.
"Penalty enhancements work to enforce public safety, to hold repeat offenders accountable, and to protect victims of violent crimes. The murder of Pam Knight and efforts to heighten penalties to protect front-line workers have fallen to the wayside."
