Excessive Heat Warning: City of Glendale Urges Energy Conservation and Opens Cooling Centers

Glendale, CA - An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for Glendale beginning Tuesday, July 14, at 10:00 AM. With little overnight relief expected and Wednesday forecast to be the hottest day of the week, the City is urging residents and businesses to take precautions to stay safe, conserve electricity, and utilize available City resources during the heat event.
Prolonged high temperatures will increase demand on Glendale Water & Power's (GWP) electrical system as air conditioners are expected to continue running both day and night. GWP crews are closely monitoring system conditions and taking proactive steps to maintain reliable service throughout the heat event.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to conserve electricity, when possible, particularly during periods of peak demand. Simple actions, such as delaying the use of major appliances until the evening, adjusting thermostats, and turning off unnecessary lights and electronics, can help reduce strain on the electrical grid.
To help residents stay cool, the City will activate four cooling centers from Tuesday, July 14 through Friday, July 17, 2026, for anyone seeking relief from the heat during the hottest parts of the day. Residents can also cool off at Pacific Community Pool or the splash pads at Pacific Park and Cerritos Park. Heat Safety Tips
  • Avoid outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, generally between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
