Joy Bruce has joined University of the Ozarks as a mental health therapist. Her first day was Aug. 17.

Dr. Kaethe Hoehling will continue to serve as the director of counseling services in a part-time role for the 2026-27 academic year.

A native of Texarkana, Texas, Bruce earned a degree in psychology from University of Arkansas and a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Walden University.

She has most recently worked at Pinnacle Point Behavioral Healthcare and served as a graduate internship with Kornerstone Counseling in Russellville, Ark. She has also worked at the Cornerstone Counseling Clinic in Texarkana and the Piney Ridge Treatment Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

"I remember what it was like to start over in college, move to a new town, and navigate a completely new chapter of life," Bruce said. "I'm excited to join University of the Ozarks and have the opportunity to support students during such an important time in their lives by being a safe and supportive place for students who may be going through a difficult time."

She has a young son named Beckham and a fiance, Ryan.

Outside of work, Bruce enjoys finding creative ways to relax and spend time with the people she loves. "Every Saturday I go to music class with my toddler and it's the highlight of my week," she said.
