United States Department of the Treasury Announces Key Nomination

WASHINGTON - Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent announced today President Trump's intent to nominate G. Hunter McMaster II to serve as Assistant Secretary for Financial Markets. Mr. McMaster currently serves as Counselor to the Secretary and joined Treasury in January of 2025 as the Director of Policy and Planning. Mr. McMaster performed the delegable duties of the Assistant Secretary for Financial Markets from July 2025 to April 2026. Prior to his time at Treasury, Mr. McMaster was the Head of Trading at Key Square Group. He has also held positions at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, where he focused on foreign exchange and interest rate markets. Mr. McMaster has a B.S. in Mathematics from Washington and Lee University. He is a native of Columbia, South Carolina.
