Over the past decade, the dining scene at UC San Diego has exploded, with a variety of new restaurants opening each year. That trend continues as several new restaurants debut this fall and in the months to come, bringing so many fresh flavors and diverse cuisines that campus may earn the nickname "UC Super Delicious."
As the school year began, several eateries opened including the newly renovated Pines residential dining restaurant and Slice pizzeria at Muir College. The menu at Pines combines old favorites, such as Hawaiian-inspired dishes and stir-fry, with new offerings, such as Baja chicken tacos and coconut tuna poke, that celebrate the diverse flavors of California cuisine and the Pacific Rim. Sweet treats, like boba, shaved ice and acai bowls are available as well. Pines also features a new coffee bar, Morning Fog - sure to be a great place to shake off any post-study haze. Located below Pines, Slice features scratch-made pizza dough, a variety of appetizers and subs, and desserts such as gelato and sorbet. Slice also has late night dining along with a pinball machine, making it a great spot to hang with friends.
Inspired by Korea's food culture, K-Central is open in the North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood. K-Central combines an eatery, ramen experience and Korean-style convenience market in one destination. The menu offers a variety of favorites, including bulgogi, tacos, burgers, fried chicken and corn dogs. The K-Central Ramen Library offers Korean instant ramen that can be customized with a choice of toppings.
Athena Matcha and More, a matcha tea-focused cafe, is also open in North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood. The menu features drinks made with Japanese ceremonial matcha in flavors like Biscoff and Pandan and Matcha Refreshers made with coconut or sparkling water. The cafe has pastries, quiche, breakfast sandwiches, burritos and mochi waffles.
Over at the Ida and Cecil Green Faculty Club building, Cecil's is now open to faculty, staff and students. The cafe's house-made lunch menu features a rotating selection of artisan pizzas, sandwiches and salads available 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The all-day menu, offered from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. includes locally baked pastries, Peet's coffee and Mighty Leaf teas, grab-and-go meals and snacks.
Station8 Public Market, a food hall with 11 global food vendors and a cocktail bar, is scheduled to open in the Theatre District Living and Learning Neighborhood in October. Vendors will offer a tantalizing array of options, including pizza, burgers, seafood, ramen, tacos, coffee and specialty drinks, poke, sandwiches and salads.
Gong Cha, a Taiwanese bubble tea cafe, is opening in Pepper Canyon West in early fall quarter. It will feature speciality teas, fruit drinks and smoothies.
A La Jolla Shores favorite, Jeffs' Beach Burgers, is opening their campus location in the Triton Health and Wellness building in early 2027. The menu will feature burgers, hotdogs, grilled chicken and gyros. Jeffs' will also offer classic milkshakes, fries and onion rings.
Goop Kitchen, a restaurant with "clean eating" nutrient-focused food, will open in the Triton Administrative Services building in winter quarter. The menu features bowls, salads, wraps and soups and will have options that are free of gluten, processed sugars, dairy, corn, peanuts or preservatives.
Whether grabbing a quick meal, meeting friends for tea or exploring new flavors, students, faculty and staff have more options than ever to connect and experience the campus' vibrant culinary landscape.
