Moran, Westerman Secure $11 Million for Texarkana Regional Airport

Congressman Nathaniel Moran (TX-01) and Congressman Bruce Westerman (AR-04) announced that the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026 was signed into law and delivers $11 million for improvements at the Texarkana Regional Airport.

The funding supports airfield improvements that will enhance safety and expand access to developable airport property serving the bi-state region.

The project will widen the airport's primary taxiway and construct a new taxi lane, allowing larger aircraft to operate safely and enabling future hangar development. These upgrades position the airport to support additional aviation activity and long-term economic growth across the region.

Texarkana Regional Airport is jointly supported by the cities of Texarkana, Texas, and Texarkana, Arkansas, and serves as a key aviation asset for the bi-state region.

"Texarkana Regional Airport is a shared asset for communities in both Texas and Arkansas, and these improvements reflect what can be accomplished when we work together across state lines," said Congressmen Nathaniel Moran and Bruce Westerman."This funding is an important step toward strengthening regional infrastructure, improving safety, and supporting long-term economic growth for the Texarkana region."

Stakeholder Support:

Paul Mehrlich, director of Texarkana Regional Airport, said, "This investment marks a major step forward for Texarkana Regional Airport and reflects the leadership of Congressmen Moran and Westerman. The $11 million secured for our airfield strengthens safety, improves efficiency, and enhances our long-term operational capacity. These improvements will allow us to better serve current aviation partners while preparing for future growth, ensuring the airport remains a strong and reliable transportation asset for the entire Texarkana region."

Rob Sitterley, president and CEO of AR-TX REDI, said, "With $11 million secured through congressional action, made possible by the leadership and advocacy of Congressmen Moran and Westerman, Texarkana is making a strategic infrastructure investment that elevates our region in national site selection discussions. These runway improvements at Texarkana Regional Airport position us to recruit large-scale aviation projects, support hundreds of high-wage jobs, and strengthen our workforce pipeline through Texarkana College's A&P School."

Sonja Hubbard, chairman of AR-TX REDI, said, "Having spent much of my career in business, I recognize that strong, modern infrastructure is the foundation of sustained growth and job creation. We are grateful to Congressmen Nathaniel Moran and Bruce Westerman for championing and securing this federal funding through the appropriations process. This investment strengthens a vital asset for employers, workers, and residents across our bi-state region and helps ensure we are prepared to attract private investment and sustain long-term economic success."
