MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHSP) has designated the Methodist University Hospital Pharmacy as a Center of Excellence in Medication-Use Safety and Pharmacy Practice
Currently, no other hospital pharmacy in the state of Tennessee has this designation and only 10 hospital pharmacies in the entire country have been awarded this certification.
The ASHP Pharmacy Practice Accreditation Commission, which is comprised of Chairman Charles E. Daniels, Vice Chair Meghan D. Swarthout and 14 members from 12 different states, made the decision to award the designation to MUH Pharmacy at their August meeting.
The pharmacy department was awarded the certification in large part due to its "innovations, high quality, safe and effective patient care and pharmacy services and contemporary use of best practices for hospital and health-system pharmacy practice," according to a letter from ASHSP Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Samuel V. Calabrese.
Jennifer Twilla, who serves as Vice President of Services Integration for Methodist Le Bonheur, said this designation is further confirmation of the outstanding work being done by pharmacy team.
"For the Methodist University Pharmacy, achieving the ASHP Certified Center of Excellence in Medication-Use Safety and Pharmacy Practice designation was more than earning a recognition. It was an opportunity to validate our commitment to quality, medication safety, and exceptional patient care while challenging ourselves to identify new opportunities for growth and innovation," Twilla said.
"This distinction reflects the dedication of our pharmacy team, whose collaboration, expertise, and pursuit of excellence help improve every life they touch while advancing Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare's vision of building a culture of excellence," she added.
Whether it's through expanding the Pharm to Door delivery program, offering access and support to medications for rare and complex conditions, the pharmacy is leading the charge in the Mid-South in going beyond filling routine prescriptions.
The MUH Pharmacy is open seven days a week. To learn more, call 901-516-8168.
